    All the Godfathers knew Michael had killed Sallazo and McCluskey because in the peace conference Don Corleone says to the other Dons that his motivation in forgoing his vengeance is so "these ridiculous allegations" against my son can be quelled and Michael can come home. Everybody in the room knew that was a lie and that the allegations were true. They knew Sallazo met with Michael the night he got killed, and Michael fled to Sicily immediately thereafter. Obviously he was guilty of killing Salazzo, which was a setback to all their plans to import Sallazo's heroin and make money. They knew Sallazo had gotten the agreement of Barzini and all the other families for his plans before approaching Don Corleone for protection. The Corleone family couldn't make peace with Sallazo, even if he was backed by the other families without looking fatally weak. And Sallazo had to kill Don Corleone so that he could make a deal with Sonny to go ahead with the protection scheme. He knew Sonny wanted to accept the protection deal because he spoke out at Sallazo's meeting with Don Corleone. And he was counting on Tom Hagen and Michael to calm Sonny down enough to see reason, and that the Corleone family had no alternative but to accept peace and agree to the protection deal since the other families were all backing Sallazo. But, he wasn't counting on Michael being so ruthless and didn't realize that the Corleone's had someone in McCluskey's precinct on their payroll.

    I've thought for some time, that Rocco and Fredo's wife pulled this off. I think only a woman could have risked going into Kays bedroom, if seen she could have dropped any excuse, a man no way. 2nd. If Neri wasn't the inside threat, that leaves Rocco. He was head of compound security btw. Finally, i think he was piping Fredo's wife, because Fredo certainly wasn't eg. Rocco carrying her off drunk at the dinner. There is no way Roth would counted an Fredo to pull off the hit and both hitmen had their throats cut, no doubt by people thy trusted. Rocco.

    This video is stupid on so many levels. He's just yapping and basically describing the movie. It wasn't hard to figure out who killed Bates. Tommy was a know hot head. Everyone seen what happened in the bar and how Tommy threatened him. When Pauly specifically did not ask Tommy what he knew about it. He specifically asked Henry. At that point it was already determined that Tommy had killed Bates. They were investigating whether Henery should be wacked too. Pauly was already told Tommy was going down and ut was nithing Pauly could do, but Pauly spoke up for Henery and when Henery said what he said,he was believable. Tommy was already dead at that point

    Michael is just trying to deceive Roth. He was acting difficult and skeptical to get Roth from suspicion that he knows Roth plans are to have Michael killed in Cuba, and on the other side he has a pre-emptive strike to Roth. In the first Godfather movie Clemenza does something similar, acting a bit irritated when he sets out with Paulie Gatto on what will be his last ride. Clemenza acts irritated, knowing that Paulie will be suspicious if he’s too friendly. In the novel Clemenza plans how he will act to put Paulie off his guard.

    Rocco had the access that no one else... Michael sent him to kill Roth. He knew he was sending him on a suicide mission. Whether he opened the drapes or something escaped his attention... either action means he failed to secure his or betrayed him for so little...he is guilty. Sending Rocco eliminated the possibility of it happening again and sending a message to all would be " Capo de Tutti capi " aspirants. Rocco either way, he was a possible liability and an expendable asset all at once and that meant that he had to die.

    This story parallels Vito’s feud with Don Cicco. Just as Roth uses Money to misdirect Michael from his plan to kill him, Vito uses misdirection on Don Cicco by asking for his “Blessing” to use the olives of Corleone for his Olive oil business.

    I’m not convinced Roth could’ve financed the Havana deal out of his own pocket. He says we’re bigger than US Steel, not I’m bigger than US Steel. His talent as financial wizard is in leveraging others’ money, and Michael’s $2M is key to getting the other families to pony up. What becomes clearer in Godfather III is that that’s precisely the role Michael wants to play - investing mafia funds in legal enterprises. Hence the deadly rivalry.

    • @TJ_CrayonBeltFeeder
      @TJ_CrayonBeltFeeder 3 дні тому

      Wrong. At the end of GF1 you see that Michael doesn’t care about anybody but himself. Even his children are second to him. Only the idea of hurting his children only upsets Michael because it disrespects him. He never cries, smiles or laughs genuinely post Sollozo and McCluskey business. One time Fredo makes the daiquiri comment and he smirks quickly. Michael realizes in 3 that he is only in the end. There are similarities to James dean character in Giant and there was a mirror in Daniel day Lewis in there will be blood. Al Pacino will later circle back to this in Scarface.

Also Michael wanted it to look like Tom fell out of favor to the rest of the family. That way no one would suspect that Tom was still an important ally.
